Roads & Infrastructure

The Mayrouba-Jouret El Tormos road, bridging a gap in the valley separating both towns, was not compatible with modern traffic requirements with its steep slopes, unprotected sides and narrow lanes reduced to three meters in some areas. Rehabilitation studies were conducted for the 12 km road recommending significant land expropriation to develop an 8 m road shoulder. In light of the need for an official decree approving the expropriation process, all necessary documentation were prepared, including a survey of impact on construction and on the cadastral situation. From a design perspective, the slopes have also been revised to bring them in line with AASHTO requirements, while side slopes were stabilized with rock or retaining walls.
